Dec 2006 : First batch of dog vans in Sussex custody

East Yorkshire-based Kinetic Special Vehicles (KSV) has handed over the first batch of a new fleet of dog vans to Sussex Police. KSV will deliver 12 more of the specialist bespoke vehicles in early 2008.

Mark Catley, Kinetic’s Sales Director, said: “Kinetic is delighted to have handed over the first vehicles of this major order to Sussex Police and we now look forward to completing delivery of the next batch in the new year.”

The Ford vehicles were purchased under the National Police Improvement Agency’s framework agreement. KSV has a three year framework agreement with Sussex Police, with an option to extend for a further two years, and is one of just  four approved contractors on the framework agreement.

The Sussex Police contract is the latest in a string of high-profile contracts for the Beverley-based company, which works with most of the UK police forces up and down the country.

The framework agreement is a collaborative nationwide process that allows other forces to access information on a host of vehicles that are robust enough to handle the rigours of police work. Other forces can commission similar vehicles, to their own specifications, rather than undertaking an otherwise laborious tender process.

As well as being able to exploit collaborative opportunities nationwide the agreement also allows individual forces to deliver on their own cost-effective fleet management strategies.

Dennis Ord, Fleet Manager at Sussex Police, said: “Our association with KSV goes back many years. Due to their experience, KSV has supplied us with a well engineered, professional cost effective product”.

“Police dogs need to be transported safely and sometimes at speed and therefore we need the vehicle to give us the ability to deploy the dogs quickly, safely and effectively. These vehicles certainly do that.”
