June 2006 : Trio of fire contracts for Kinetic
East Yorkshire-based Kinetic Special Vehicles (KSV) is celebrating a trio of ‘fire’ contracts with North Yorkshire, Kent and Somerset Fire Services.
The company, who specialise in designing bespoke vehicles for police forces, prison service and other authorities which require secure and protected vehicles, is pleased to be using their expertise to build specialist fire fighting vehicles.
Kinetic’s work with North Yorkshire involves the construction of eight bespoke Community Fire Express vehicles. Each has a self contained fire fighting system so the vehicles can be used to fight small fires and also operate as a community vehicle to provide demonstrations at schools or exhibitions. With a full fire fighting system fitted into the back, it is a cost-effective vehicle that can also be used for a variety of fire awareness campaigns.
This contract of eight vehicles follows Kinetic’s production of a prototype Community Safety Vehicle last year. Work on the eight vehicles began in April and North Yorkshire Fire Service expect to take delivery in the summer.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire Fire explained: “The fire express model is an extremely versatile vehicle. As well as taking it to schools and community events where we can demonstrate small scale fires such as the devastating effects of chip pan fires, if it is needed it can also be used as an initial response to intervention activities in remote and rural areas and to tackle smaller fires where attendance times of a full scale fire engine could take longer.
“We were very happy with the Community Vehicle that Kinetic produced last year and have worked closely with them to come up with a specific design that meets our needs. It is also handy that they’re on our doorstep in neighbouring East Yorkshire.”
Alongside working with fire services close to home, Kinetic has also just delivered a Fire Utility Van for Kent which is already in service. This vehicle was shown at the Chief Fire Officers Association Fleet Managers Seminar in Moreton-in-Marsh at the end of May and attracted a tremendous amount of interest.
The third major contract is for three Command Support Units for Somerset Fire and Rescue Brigade. The vehicles are to be fitted with a conference area and a control desk so that activities at major incidents can be managed more effectively. The vehicles are already with Kinetic and the conversion should be completed by the end of June.
Mark Catley, Kinetic’s Sales and Marketing Director explained: “This trio of fire contracts is testament to the company’s ability to produce a wide variety of specialist vehicles.
“We are pleased to be able to use our skills to provide these vehicles for the fire market and we hope to be involved in this area for many years to come.” |
